Karavitakis Winery is located in Pontikiana, Chania. For many generations, Karavitakis family has been involved in the production of olive oil and mainly wine and raisins. Since 1998, Manolis Karavitakis, with experience in managing the Kasteli Agricultural Cooperatives Union, has been refining family vineyards by planting new varieties and building a modern winery, a vertical winemaking, aging and bottling plant. The estate follows the most modern winemaking methods with the most sophisticated mechanical equipment to produce wines that can compete internationally.
The vineyards consist of 40 acres of privately owned land and many smaller estates of exclusively cooperating producers. All the above vineyards are under the constant supervision of Manolis Karavitakis and the agronomist of the estate. The key to higher quality wines is the low yields and the organic way of cultivating the vineyards, which are the first priority of the estate.
Karavitakis Winery is characterized by constant experimentation with new products, varieties and techniques. The main effort is to produce wines with all the typical characteristics of each variety cultivated, but also to obtain some evidence of the diversity of Crete's terroir. This is achieved because of the unique location of the vineyards that combines light altitude with immediate proximity to the sea.
